Schools Discover a Mobile Digital Classroom Solution
Practical, secure & portable workstands allow all classrooms to go digital.

Just about every school district in the nation has a goal of making each classroom a state-of-the-art digital media classroom. But most have not yet achieved this goal because of the high costs involved.
However, thanks to a new mobile solution -- a secure, yet adjustable workstand designed to accommodate new digital media equipment – many school districts may be able to achieve that goal, even in a time of tighter budgets.

A digital classroom typically requires a computer with video and sound cards, a technology white board, a multimedia projector and a document camera or digital presenter. The estimated cost for such a digital classroom is $4,000 to $5,000 -- and that includes the cost of installing a projector in the classroom ceiling (typically $1,200-$2,200 per room).
While ceiling-mounted projector installations offer some advantages, including greater physical security for the unit and no line-of-site obstructions between the projector and the screen, there are major disadvantages. Installations take time, and schools usually have to schedule installations during vacations when all the classrooms are empty. It can be difficult to service projectors once they are on the ceiling (meaning that replacing bulbs, air filters and other basic components can become an arduous maintenance issue). Also, once a projector is ceiling mounted, it can no longer be moved from one classroom to another.
A mobile system for mounting and using digital media equipment can provide a lower-cost alternative to a permanent installation, along with greater versatility for users.
SecurityWorks’ patent-pending Workstand 9095, designed specifically for digital media equipment, has been field tested in several California school districts -- and educators have reported excellent results.
“SecurityWorks company has been outstanding in helping us design a Mobile Technology Workstand to accommodate our 21st century classrooms, at an affordable price,” explained Christine Olmstead, technology director for Brea (Calif.) Olinda Unified School District, where Workstands were installed in all 12 schools. “Our electronic document cameras, laptops and projectors all fit securely on one mobile stand that can move around a classroom -- or between classrooms, to share.”
SecurityWorks’ Mobile Presentation Workstand technology bundle -- including a 2,000+ lumen DLP projector with powered speakers, an Elmo document camera and a mounting system for this equipment (which also accommodates a laptop computer provided by the school) -- costs less than $2,000 per classroom, including delivery, assembly, equipment installation and teacher quick-start training.
